Vegan Harry Potter Party Invites

You can find these invites online and print the templates in Word, after typing the needed information in the template. We found some off-white paper, that had a bit of an old parchment look to it. If you don’t have an off-white or cream paper, white paper is just fine. Roll them up into scrolls and attach a red ribbon to them.

Assembling the invitations

Inflate one white balloon per invite and with a sharpie, draw these owls. Tie the scroll to the owl and now the owls are ready to deliver your mail! This is so fun. Even before the party starts, you can get into the spirit of Hogwarts!

One week before the party, my daughter brought these invites to school, and at the end of the day when everyone was gone, she put them in her friends’ lockers. They were so excited to get these surprises the next morning when they returned to school!

Vegan Harry Potter Sorting hat bread

This bread was relatively easy to make and interesting to bake! You will have to fashion the bread into a face which is easy enough, Just play around with it like playdough. It turned out pretty tasty too. It was fun to have the kids tear off pieces and dip them in hummus. I followed the recipe here

Vegan Harry Potter Party Decor

We started preparing the decorations three to four weeks ahead of time. We gave ourselves plenty of time as we wanted to do much of it ourselves, with DIY’s and printables.

Marauders map – printable

Make your wand – we found a branch outside and fashioned it into a pretty wand. We used twine that we rolled around the wand with hot glue and painted all with brown acrylic paint. Once it was all dried, we glazed it with modge podge.

Spellbook – printable, and we cut out the pages and fashioned into a book.

Harry Potters’ Owls Post Service

We had a few of our plush owls, so we set up an Owl Post. If you don`t have any plushies, you can ask to borrow some from friends or family. You can also ask your invitees to bring their plush owls. The owls can hang out at the Owl Post during the party. Print an Owl Post sign. I also wrapped up the birthday gifts in brown paper and printed some authentic post labels and stickers to put all over the gifts. So all the gifts will go to the Owl Post!

White owl balloons

We blew up the rest of our white balloons and drew some owls on them. We had these hanging around our Owl Post.

Hogwart’s Great Hall Floating candles

We crafted up these candles with toilet paper rolls covered in white paper and hot glue to look like dripping wax on the sides. We then borrowed some little electronic lights from a friend and inserted them in. You can find these at a craft shop, or possibly at the Dollar Store. They fit perfectly. We didn`t have a place to hang them from the ceiling as they do in the Grand Dining Hall, so we just put them on the shelf. I suggest to hang them over the Dining Hall for a great effect, and have them lit up!

Honeydukes Candy Store Pink Flowers

These pink pom-pom flowers look great poked in the candy dishes as decorations. They are so easy to make and turn out great. All you need is some light pink crepe paper and skewers.

Harry Potter Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Jelly Belly Beans

If you get carried away, you can order these for an extra treat in your guests’ goodie bags!

Hogwart’s House Food Decor

Get your color table cloths, balloons, napkins, plates, and cups in the Hogwarts House colors at the Dollar Store.

Hogwart’s House colors

Gryffindor – scarlet and gold

Hufflepuff – yellow and black

Ravenclaw – blue and bronze

Slytherin – green and silver

Harry Potter Goodie bags

You will need sticks, from branches outside, about a foot long. Then you will need 2 brown lunch bags per goodie bag and a small roll of Raffia craft ribbon. (I bought these at the Dollar Store)

Harry Potter Goodie Bag Items

For your Vegan Harry Potter goodie bag, buy 1 Vegan chocolate bar per bag. Printout of Dementor’s chocolate wrapper to wrap the bar with. Bookmarks (printable), candy (labeled like the candy in Harry Potter movie), jewelry, or any other item you wish to give the group, for goody bags.

Harry Potter Party Thank You Note

Printable affixed onto goodie bag. Give the kids goodie bags when they leave the party.

Harry Potter Potion Bottles

We went for a little rummage through our local thrift store and found some interesting bottles for cheap. We printed Potion Labels and glued them on. These were on a shelf for decor along with some spiders we made from black pipe cleaners (you can purchase pipe cleaners at the Dollar Store).

Harry Potter Kings Cross Train Station Brick Wall

DIY link – this brick wall was a very fun project to do on a Saturday afternoon. Find an old sheet, white or cream color. Buy brick red acrylic paint and cheap square sponge. Don’t press too hard so that your bricks can look less uniform. leave 1/2 inch between bricks. Hang in a doorway.

Harry Potter Kings Cross Train Station Platform 9 3/4 sign

Printable to post over your brick wall.

Ministry of Magic Toilet Label

You must have a Ministry of Magic label on your toilet! It will bring a smile to all your guests as they use the loo! Also, to add a bit of eeriness to the bathroom experience, tape a picture of Moaning Myrtle on the bathroom mirror.

Potion class set up

Label the following ingredients with printables and paste on small clear jars or cups.

Pond Water = vinegar

Dragon Blood = red food coloring

Werewolf Hair = fabric hair

Bug Slime = green dish soap

Pixie Dust = Glitter

Bone Dust = Baking Soda

Skeleton Dust = cornstarch

Egg Dust = dry yeast

Dragon Mouthwash = 20 Volume Hair Developer

Liquid-Solid Dancing Unicorn Milk

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Skeleton Powder – (dry cornstarch)
  • ½ cup of water

Method:

Pour water in a large bowl. Have kids poor Skeleton Powder in a bowl and mix with their hands. It will get messy, so make sure you have your table covered with plastic tablecloth to throw away. This will not stain or dirty clothes. It`s all washable.

They will enjoy the feeling of this liquid, which is also a solid. Get their hands into this one. Lots of tactile fun for all ages!

Magic Spoon Potion Class

Plastic spoons – the amount of spoons needed coordinates with the number of guests you have (one spoon per guest).

(For this example, I will use 7 guests)

Put a drop of food coloring in all spoons (use different colors):

  • 2 purple spoons (earns 1 bingo chip)
  • 2 blue spoons (earns 2 bingo chips)
  • 2 orange spoons (earns 3 bingo chips)
  • 1 green spoon (earns 5 bingo chips)

Cover the drop of color in the spoon with Bone Dust (baking soda) so that you can`t see the color underneath.

Put all your spoons on a plate and put aside ready for the game.

Fill 7 vials or clear cups with ½ cup of Pond Water (white vinegar).

Each guest has a cup and a prepared spoon. Have guests measure Pond Water into their cups. They then will each take a turn to dunk the spoon in their cup and stir. It will grow into a fizzy colored water and bubble over. It’s a good idea to put a plate or pasta bowl underneath if you don’t want a watery mess!

The colors of the magic spoon water will determine who the winner is. In my example above, the green-colored potion will be the winner since he/she will earn the most bingo chips.

Games

For the games, the kids earn bingo chips in order to buy candy at Honeydukes! They were allowed to buy Vegan Harry Potter candy at the store before the movie, so they had some candy and munchies for that.

How to distribute game chips:

  • 2 chips – Participate in the game or activity
  • 4 chips – Complete the game
  • 6 chips – If you get everything correct (on the Harry Potter printable games for example)

Ideas for games and activities where they can earn chips:

  • Pick your Hogwarts house – printable
  • Harry Potter trivia questions – online
  • Harry Potter Word search game – printable
  • Harry Potter spell match game – printable

Free play ideas:

  • Other games kids made up
  • Card games like Go Fish, Garbage, etc.
  • Disco party in the Gryffindor dormitory – had disco lights in bedroom and kids danced to music
